Start Blowing!

Let's get started with some simple bubble solution. You don't need to buy special kits - just use ordinary liquid dishwashing detergent (Dawn and Joy seem to work best, although other brands are also OK). Mix about 1/4 cup of detergent with 3 1/2 cups of water. Stir gently until it is mixed. Put this solution into a jar or bottle. If the water in your neighborhood is "hard" (has a lot of dissolved minerals in it), you may find that distilled water from the supermarket makes a better bubble solution.

If you want super-long-lasting bubbles, also add about 1 tablespoon of glycerine (from the drug store) or Karo white corn syrup (from the supermarket). Dr. B will explain why this works later.

If you want to start blowing bubbles right away, dip the end of a drinking straw into the bubble solution and blow into the dry end. How big are the bubbles you're making?
